Terneuzen lock complex and Hulst

Zeeuws-Vlaanderen has an enormous complex of locks that is used by vast sea-faring vessels, and an opportunity to see the technology behind the scenes is quite a unique experience. You´ll enter via the bascule bridge cellar for a spectacular tour of the lock complex. When the bridge opens, the 45-metre-long road surface is lifted up by the 380-ton counterweight! You can watch the ships go by from the watchtower which has brilliant views of the tidal lock, the canal, the Westerschelde estuary and Terneuzen's old city centre, and at the end of your visit, you'll be taken on a boat trip on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.
Lunch will be served in a restaurant with a sea view (included in the price).

The fortified town of Hulst is another good example of Zeelandic technology. It is surrounded by strong, high walls, which turned it into an impenetrable stronghold. When you arrive, you'll have the opportunity to walk along the town walls and into the centre of this old and lovely border town. The guided walk is followed by some free time in Hulst.
