(Tour of Vlissingen, visit to the maritime museum (MuZEEum) and free time)
The location of the maritime city of Vlissingen is somewhat unique. Its city centre is situated beside the sea, and there is nowhere else in the Netherlands that you will be able to see the ships sail by as closely as you can from the promenade here in Vlissingen. In addition to the fact that it is popular with tourists for its swimming and sightseeing, there is also a considerable amount of commerce in the harbours and shipyards. The tour guide will take you along the characteristic alleyways, interesting squares and can tell you all about the stories behind the buildings you´ll see on the way. These will include St Jacobskerk Church, old harbours and the promenade.
This tour is followed by a trip to the maritime museum, MuZEEum, (or MuSEAum), which is housed in a complex of buildings dating from different centuries that are all interlinked in an unusual way. You´ll be able to see, hear, explore and experience the maritime history of Vlissingen. This is a guided tour, and be sure not to forget to climb the tower for magnificent views overlooking the city. You´ll also have some free time in Vlissingen for strolling along the promenade and watching the ships go by.
